Out-of-Network Benefits
In the event that Quartz Psychological Services, LLC is not in-network with your insurance plan, you may also choose to use out-of-network benefits. Your insurance company may reimburse you for accessing services with a provider outside of your network. Check with your insurance plan to learn about your out-of-network coverage. Some plans could reimburse 50% to 90% of what you pay. If you wish to use your out-of-network benefits, I will provide you with an invoice of services with all the information your insurance company needs.

Using Insurance Benefits
Making use of your insurance benefits for mental health services can make accessing services easier. However, under some circumstances, you may choose not to use your benefits. To support you in making an informed decision, here are just some of the pros and cons for using insurance benefits.
Pros
-
Usually reduces out-of-pocket costs to a more manageable fee (e.g., an affordable copay per appointment). This is dependent on specifics of your plan.
-
Because it is typically more affordable, you are more likely to be able to attend at the right frequency for you (e.g., weekly) with more consistency. This is important for building and maintaining momentum and meeting your goals.
-
If you have a deductible that must be met, therapy can actually support you in meeting that deductible earlier in the year, potentially off-setting other medical costs.
-
You likely already pay into the program, and taking advantage of the available benefits is your right.
Cons
-
Therapists must assign a diagnosis under which the claim is made— insurance will typically not cover your services if you are not assigned a diagnosis. For some, this can feel unnecessary or even upsetting. For your therapist, this can at times result in an ethical quandary.
-
By using your insurance, you waive your right to total privacy. Insurance companies often require that therapists submit confidential information including diagnoses and treatment plans in order to determine if services will be covered.
-
Several applications in future may require you to disclose past treatment or diagnoses. Your ability to access life insurance, disability benefits, jobs where security clearance is required, or joining the military could all be impacted depending on your recorded mental health history.
-
Some insurance plans may limit how many sessions that are covered in a given year or based on the diagnosis you receive. This could interrupt your services or result in unexpected out-of-pocket costs in the end.
